I Ain't Got No Home: (Re)learning the Value of Place and Occupying a Sustainable Future

By Tina Evans

Can we truly be at home in the marketplace? What kind of place is the marketplace, anyway, and how is it related to places like our communities, our homes, and the places we love in the natural world?

This is the subject of "I Ain't Got No Home: (Re)learning the Value of Place and Occupying a Sustainable Future," the most recent installment in my Living and Learning Sustainability series on New Clear Vision. I hope you enjoy this one and find it useful.

Note: This article is the fourth in a series by Tina Evans titled “Living and Learning Sustainability.” Other articles from this series are available on New Clear Vision:

Durango Joins More Than 175 Countries in Moving Without Fossil Fuels

On Saturday, September 24th, citizen activists in more than 175 countries called on world leaders to move beyond fossil fuels -- and showed how much fun it can be to move without fossil fuels in joining 350.org's Moving Planet event.

Durango joined this movement with SASCO hosting a community critical mass bike parade and Local First helping to sponsor it along with the Fort Lewis College's Environmental Center doing their part to circulate the event and get students involved. Even though the event was put together within a week, we still had a great turnout of 30 people and picked up other bikers and skateboarders along the route.

Community Collaboration

We are continuously involved in community collaborations

Collaboration is key in nurturing a thriving community.

One of the Sustainability Alliance's main focus areas is helping to facilitate community collaboration in La Plata County through project support, volunteerism, and dedication to a vision of sustainability. Sustainability cannot exist without collaboration.

In the past, we have had specific teams designated to building collaborative community projects, such as the Community Resource Project, which is discussed below. Today, we aim to support others who are making efforts toward collaboration and cooperation.

We are currently involved in supporting the following community collaborative programs and projects:

We are always keen to learn of any new community collaboration projects happening in La Plata County. Please contact us and let us know how to help support and facilitate more community collaborations!
