  • Sustainability metrics

Minutes: 25 February 2010, approved.

LPSD
  • March 11: presentations were good; attendance fair (25). Coming during 9-R and FLC spring break probably limited attendance; we should try to avoid scheduling the Updates from Local Governments in March.
  • May 13 topic: Green Riders Sustainability Tour
    • Great opportunity to connect with National Bicycle Month and the Iron Horse event
    • Needs: specific invitations; format: probably to include Green Riders’ presentation, something from the local bicycle community, and connection to sustainability
    • Candee agreed to coordinate

Comprehensive Plan input
  • Dick summarized the current status of the La Plata County Comp Plan process.
  • We need to solicit broad input into Goals and Strategies document at public meetings and via email.

Sustainability Metrics
  • Region 9 Index report. Dick summarized the history and the request from Donna Graves for a short list of new topics with adequate data for inclusion in 2011 edition.
  • Timeline: data collection completed by about October 1
  • We need to identify metrics for immediate consideration and others for possible future inclusion.
  • Rebecca has gotten information from the Alliance for Sustainable Colorado. She suggested the need for statewide coordination and noted possible information from the Department of Local Affairs and from Wal-Mart.
  • Werner has contacted David Schaller and Marjo Curgus. He also will research Santa Monica, CA.
  • The CEAP process includes the greenhouse gas inventory; development of emission reduction and adaptation measures is in progress.
  • Other issues identified include air quality, the waste stream (e.g., Bondad, by source), number and mix of vehicles, local economic activity, and health care.
  • Preparation for next meeting (April 22)
    • Review Region 9 document.
    • Examine other sources (see February 25 minutes and commitments cited above; also, Dick will do Austin, TX).
    • Identify top measures to forward to Donna Graves.
    • Dick will inform Donna about the greenhouse gas emissions inventory.
